Parkway Building
ITESM, Querétaro, México.
International Workshop, 2012. / Federico Vidargas
Mario Escudero / Stephanye Islas
The project was a proposal for the site where the famous architect Santiago Calatrava attempted to build the tallest skyscraper called “Chicago Spire” in 2007 . The project was to have 116 stories that included a hotel and condominiums. However, The terrain was drilled into a 32 m diameter and 24 m depth when the project failed financially soon after construction began.
The site is located at 400 N. Lake Shore Drive, on Chicago’s waterfront west of Navy Pier at the junction of Lake Michigan and the Chicago River.
The aim of the international workshop was to propose a program for the existing conditions. A thorough analysis revealed the need for a focal point that links all the areas surrounding the site to create an area for social interactions.

One of the urban proposals was to continue the green corridors that come from the South and North of the city and connect them with the river walk in order to convert the plaza of the complex into this connection that the city needs, making an attractive program of activities inside to return the life to the zone and at the same time attracting customers to the commercial plaza and to the Dusable Park.
Additionally, provide all services to the residents of the building including shops on the lower plaza and a nearby place to work. The general idea and analysis were resolved as a team. I was responsible for developing all the plans on Archicad and photoshop and Mario was responsible for the renderings.
